Careers at Everstead

The Work Matters. So Does the Person Doing It.

Working with children and youth with complex needs is not ordinary work.

Some days are structured and predictable. Other days require patience, quick thinking, flexibility, and the ability to remain grounded when things become difficult. There will be moments that challenge you, and there will be moments that remind you exactly why this work matters.

At Everstead, we are looking for people who understand that care is more than completing a shift.

It is being present.
It is noticing the small things.
It is knowing when to give space and when to offer support.
It is celebrating progress that someone else might not notice.
And it is continuing to treat a young person with dignity, even on their hardest day.

Who We Want on Our Team

We are not simply looking for people who can work with youth.

We are looking for people who can connect with youth.

The right person for Everstead is someone who can remain calm when a situation becomes challenging, communicate without escalating a situation, maintain appropriate boundaries while building trust, and recognize the person behind the behaviour.

You may be a great fit for Everstead if you:

Can remain patient when progress takes time
Understand that behaviour communicates a need
Can establish boundaries without losing compassion
Are comfortable working in a structured residential environment
Can adapt when a plan needs to change
Take documentation and communication seriously
Are comfortable receiving feedback and continuing to learn
Can work independently while remaining connected to a larger care team
Understand the importance of consistency in a young person's life
Are willing to see strengths where others may see only challenges

Most importantly, you should genuinely care about the work.

What You Will Do

As a member of the Everstead team, you will become part of a young person's everyday environment.

Your responsibilities may include providing direct care and supervision, supporting daily routines, assisting with school and appointments, participating in community activities, supporting emotional regulation, responding to behavioural concerns, and helping youth develop practical skills for greater independence.

You will also be responsible for the less visible—but equally important—parts of residential care:

You will observe.

You will notice changes in behaviour, mood, routines, and presentation.

You will communicate.

You will ensure important information is shared clearly with the team and relevant professionals.

You will document.

You will maintain accurate records that contribute to continuity and quality of care.

You will advocate.

You will help ensure the young person's needs, voice, and individual circumstances are understood.

You will participate.

You will be part of the routines, activities, appointments, community experiences, and everyday moments that make up residential life.

We Believe Good Staff Are Always Learning

Working with youth with complex needs requires more than a certificate.

It requires curiosity, self-awareness, reflection, and a willingness to learn.

At Everstead, professional development is an ongoing part of the work. Staff are expected to understand the policies and procedures that guide our program, maintain required certifications, participate in training, and continue developing the skills needed to support the youth in our care.

We value people who can say:

“I don't know yet—but I'm willing to learn.”

A Team With Purpose

Residential work can be demanding. It can also be deeply rewarding.

You may not always see the impact of your work immediately. Sometimes success looks like a youth attending school consistently. Sometimes it is learning to prepare a meal independently. Sometimes it is choosing to use a coping strategy instead of escalating. Sometimes it is simply having a difficult day and knowing that the adults around them will still be there tomorrow.

Those moments matter.

And so does the person standing beside them.
